Successful winter sports season for Audi

  • Marcel Hirscher and #laragut win overall Alpine World Cup
  • World Cup Finale as test for 2017 Alpine World Championships
  • Extensive brand presence also in other skiing disciplines

High suspense and top performance: The season finale of the #audi FIS Ski World Cup in St. Moritz (CH) was the fitting conclusion of a challenging season. #audi underscored its position as a strong partner of international winter sports. In addition to its commitment in alpine skiing, #audi was featured in four other World Cups in the 2015/16 season.

Athlete extraordinaire #marcelhirscher impressed competitors and spectators once more. The Austrian won the overall men’s World Cup for the fifth consecutive time and, with a score of 1,795 points, set a new personal record. In the women’s events, #laragut (CH) and U.S. star #lindseyvonn were racing head-to-head for a long time until the season ended for Vonn due to injuries. In the end, Gut won the coveted crystal ball in the women’s events.

The World Cup Finale in St. Moritz was also the ‘dress rehearsal’ for the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships presented by #audi to be held from February 6 to 19, 2017.

Off the slopes, #audi was featured at the season’s pinnacle #event in Kitzbühel with a speedy innovation, the inaugural #audi quattro SuperQ. At the wheel of sporty #audi models, skiing aces #marcelhirscher, Henrik Kristoffersen (N), Felix Neureuther (D) and Ted Ligety (USA) experienced driving at the limit on a snow and ice course specifically prepared for the #competition. The ski racers really got their money’s worth during this ultimate quattro experience, as did the guests who, during the World Cup events in Europe, North America and Asia, had the opportunity of getting a first-hand impression of the superiority of the permanent all-wheel drive on snow and ice.

The #audi FIS Ski Cross World Cup, which particularly addresses young audiences, was supported by the four rings as the title sponsor for the fifth year. Overall winners of the World Cup were Anna Holmlund (S) with the women and Jean-Frédéric Chapuis (F) with the men.

At the same time as the World Cup finale, the eagerly awaited season finale of the #audi quattro Ski Cup took place in St. Moritz. This is where amateurs get to experience a true World Cup feeling. The #audi quattro Ski Cup is a counterpart of the #audi quattro Cup in golf. All 60 finalists in the #audi quattro Ski Cup had previously won in five qualification races in Austria, France, Italy, Germany and Switzerland. In St. Moritz, #audi celebrated the overall winners in the men’s and women’s events in two age groups.

In addition, the automobile brand thrilled athletes and fans in the FIS Cross-Country Skiing and Ski Jumping World Cups and in the Nordic Combination World Cups with demo drives and exhibitions of the current quattro models. The tradition-steeped Four Hills Tournament and the World Ski Flying Championships were again held under the banner of the four rings as well.
