Angelique Kerber and Laura Siegemund in Stuttgart dream final

Stuttgart. The #porsche #tennis Grand Prix has its dream final. #angeliquekerber, the title-holder, or #laurasiegemund, the qualifier – one of them will win the final on Centre Court in the sold-out #porschearena and receive the key to the #porsche 718 Boxster S – the main prize for the winner. Both #angeliquekerber, who in the semi-final beat the two-time Wimbledon champion 6-4, 4-6, 6-2, and #laurasiegemund, who defeated the world No. 2 Agnieszka Radwanska 6-4, 6-2, have earned the sports car. Even in seventh heaven at the end of the match, Siegemund still had her wits about her to supply the quote of the day: “One thing is for sure, the #porsche is staying in Germany.”

The final of the 39th #porsche #tennis Grand Prix is writing history even before the first serve is sent down: for the first time two Germans will contest the final of the long-standing Stuttgart tournament. #laurasiegemund is also the first ever qualifier to battle all way to the final. The world number three against the world No. 71, the Australian Open winner against the shooting star and home town girl from Stuttgart – it’s the final spectators have been hoping for for days. #angeliquekerber and #laurasiegemund have fulfilled their wish with dream #tennis

Above all #laurasiegemund surprised, almost staggered, the fans in the #porschearena – and she probably herself too. Not even the world number two Agnieszka Radwanska was able to halt the local hero’s winning streak. She brushed the Pole aside 6-4, 6-2 and was at no time in any real danger of losing even a set in the encounter which lasted one hour 27 minutes. In her legs at the #porsche #tennis Grand Prix are now seven matches since the first round of qualifying. Her record, seven two-set wins and three of them have come against Top 10 players – Simona Halep, Roberta Vinci and Agnieszka Radwanska.

“I myself am a bit speechless, which isn’t something that happens too often,” she said after the success. The fans celebrated the shooting star for minutes on end and were promised a spectacle on Sunday. “It’s going to be a sensational final,” she said. #angeliquekerber, the top favourite, is also “excited to see what I’m going to be up against. It’s definitely going to be a thrilling final because Laura’s got nothing to lose.”

Angelique Kerber has opened the door wide open at the #porsche #tennis Grand Prix for a successful title defense. In a thrilling match with spectacular rallies, the Australian Open winner beat the Czech Petra Kvitova 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. The spectators watched on as the #porsche Brand Ambassador and the two-time Wimbledon champion traded blows with each other. In the first two sets, there were only nuances that tipped the scales first towards Kerber and then in Kvitova’s favour. The all-important third set then developed into a festival of intensive rallies. And the longer they lasted, the more often #angeliquekerber came out on top to the thunderous roars of the crowd.

“I found my rhythm quickly in the final set and it was important for my game. The Stuttgart crowd is absolutely incredible. It gave me a big boost and propelled me forwards,” said the world No. 3, who in tight situations is profiting from her new confidence as a Grand Slam winner: “Since Melbourne, I’ve got great confidence in my #tennis. I now know I can beat everybody.” Petra Kvitova was on the receiving end. “I played well and gave my all. I don’t have to be disappointed with myself,” said the multiple Fed Cup winner. “But Angie is an incredibly good player, she runs down every ball and always gives everything she has. My energy levels dropped a little in the third set.”

After their successful start to the season with wins at the Australian Open and the tournaments in Sydney, Brisbane and St. Petersburg, Martina Hingis (Switzerland) and Sania Mirza (India) have also reached the doubles final in Stuttgart. They beat Sabine Lisicki from #porsche Team Germany and Lucie Safarova (Czech Republic) 6-4, 7-5. Martina Hingis has won not only four singles titles (between 1996 and 2000) at the #porsche #tennis Grand Prix but also the doubles on two occasions – 1997 with Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario and 2000 with Anna Kournikova. In the final the world’s best doubles at the moment will play the Frenchwomen Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic who overcame Anna-Lena Grönefeld for #porsche Team Germany and her Czech partner Kveta Peschke7-5, 5-7, 10-4
