Yaya Touré; I want to win everything with Manchester City

  • Manchester City midfielder says he ‘won’t stop’ until his team win the UEFA Champions League
  • Toure commented “I came to Manchester City to win trophies….my happiness is being part of this story”
  • Yaya credits former Olympiakos teammate Rivaldo as giving him the ‘confidence’ to join FC Barcelona where he won his first UEFA Champions League medal

With everything to play for in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League against Real Madrid this Wednesday, Manchester City midfielder #yayatour has spoken about his team’s chances of making the final in Milan at the end of the month.

Speaking to #nissan, the official global automotive sponsor of the UEFA Champions League he said;

“I’ll always remember winning the UEFA Champions League trophy in 2009… It felt unbelievable, I hope this season will be the second time. I want to win everything with this club, this is my big target. I am a big competitor and I love #competition to be honest. I will never stop until I have this trophy. It’s going to be massive if we do and for me, to be honest, when you win they give you a small replica…and I really want another one!”

Commenting on his team making it to a historic UEFA Champions League semi-final, Yaya Toure said there is a ‘massive buzz’ in the Manchester City dressing room;

“To be in this squad that is making history, it’s unbelievable. When I was at Barcelona and initially approached by Manchester City I thought it was Manchester United that wanted me – my agent had to tell me it was the team in the blue shirts. At the time Manchester United were putting Manchester City in the shadows, it was unbelievable. Manchester United is a big club and I respect that club a lot.

It was a big challenge but I came because I knew they were going to succeed and we would win trophies, compete with the big clubs and with Manchester United. This was the kind of club I wanted to have a story with and make history with….I made a good choice….my happiness is being part of this story. It’s the first time we have gone this far in the #competition and the massive buzz is there with the lads”.

Following the stalemate between Manchester City and Real Madrid in the first leg of their semi-final tie last week, Yaya Toure also highlighted his hope that their Spanish rivals don’t ‘underestimate’ Manchester City as they go into their crunch match on Wednesday evening.

“Of course they are a massive club – but if we want to be a big club like them then we have to compete against them and let them test us. It’s not going to be easy for Real Madrid though, I hope they don’t underestimate us, they might think it will be easy and that will be a big mistake for them”.

When asked about the most exciting players he’s ever had the chance to play with, Toure credited his former Olympiakos teammate Rivaldo as giving him the confidence to ever play for FC Barcelona, where he of course picked up this first UEFA Champions League title.

“What a player he is! He gave me a lot of confidence to be honest with you. When I joined Olympiakos and saw Rivaldo was close to me I was very happy. He gave me good advice, he was the first one to tell me that with my quality I could play in Spain….he was the one to put Barcelona in my head. Meeting him, playing with him and sharing a dressing with him helped me a lot”.
