UEFA Executive Committee endorses reform proposals

Several good governance reform proposals have been approved by the #uefa Executive Committee at its meeting at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland.
The #uefa Executive Committee today unanimously approved a series of good governance reform proposals presented by #uefa President #aleksanderceferin at its meeting at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland.
The key proposals which received backing from the committee were:

• Introduction of term limits for the #uefa President and members of the #uefa Executive Committee, with the possibility to serve for a maximum of three four-year terms
• Candidates for (re-)election on the #uefa Executive Committee must hold an active office (president, vice-president, general secretary or CEO) in their respective national association
• Granting of two full member positions on the #uefa Executive Committee to representatives of the European Club Association (ECA)
• Strengthening of the #uefa Governance and Compliance Committee with the additional appointment of two independent members to the current three-man body
• Inclusion of a specific article in the #uefa Statutes to ensure that venues for all #uefa competitions are selected in a fully objective manner through a transparent bidding process
• Inclusion of a specific article in the #uefa Statutes to put ethics and good governance as a statutory objective of UEFA
• Allow experts from national associations to chair #uefa Committees

As the reforms proposed will require statutory amendments, they will be voted upon by the 41st Ordinary #uefa Congress on 5 April in Helsinki, Finland.
Commenting on the support given for his proposals, #uefa President #aleksanderceferin said: "I am very pleased that the executive committee gave a unanimous backing to reforms I consider essential for the strengthening of #uefa and which formed a key pillar of my presidential manifesto.
"I am convinced that our member associations will also endorse these good governance proposals to create a stronger and more transparent governing body for the good of European football."

The next meeting of the #uefa Executive Committee will take place on 4 April in Helsinki
