Breda/Rüsselsheim – #opel congratulates #feyenoord and all their supporters on winning the Dutch national football championship of the 2016/2017 season. The title is the icing on the cake of a four year period in which #opel was the main #sponsor of the football club from the city of Rotterdam.
A new era for #opel and #feyenoord began when the announcement was made in 2013 that #opel would be the new main #sponsor of the Rotterdam football club. It was the strength of the decade-long connection between #feyenoord and its fans, rather than the prospects of sporting success that made #opel choose to #sponsor #feyenoord. The cooperation has now ended in fine style with victory in the Dutch championship. #feyenoord is back on top in Dutch football, just as #opel is back on top in the Netherlands thanks to excellent sales results. Opel’s sponsorship of #feyenoord thus ends in a beautiful symmetry.
Involving Feyenoord’s loyal fans
The #feyenoord fans were of great importance to #opel. The brand involved them throughout the entire sponsorship period with many activities. For example, #opel transformed the famous De Kuip soccer stadium for 24 hours into a camp-site for fans and even gave two supporters the opportunity to get married at the center of the pitch.
The end of the main sponsorship on June 30 does not mean the end of the ties between #opel and #feyenoord. There is a clear intention to continue the cooperation in a modified form. More details about this subject are expected soon.
