Thin Beast is king of the mountains - Fourth golden cowbell for Phil Dalhausser as US pair triumph at Gstaad Major

Swiss-born Phil Dalhausser, aka The Thin Beast, is once again the king of the mountains after striking gold at the Swatch Beach Volleyball Major Series in #gstaad with teammate Nick Lucena.

The two 37-year-old Americans won silver at the tournament in 2016 but they went one better this year following a 21-18, 21-19 victory over Polish pair Piotr Kantor and Bartosz Losiak

The victory gave Dalhausser his fourth golden cowbell following his previous victories in #gstaad, including a memorable World Championships victory in 2007 with former partner Todd Rogers

Dalhausser, standing at 206 cm tall, was imperious at the net as he used his enormous reach to make four important blocks during the 40-minute victory over the 25-year-old Poles.

He said afterwards: “There is one thing that never gets old and that is wining. It feels like it is the first one.

“I have said it all week, I love coming here, I love the town, I love the country, and the fans as well.

“We put in a lot of hard work off the court. Every tournament we enter our goal is to win. If we play like we did this past week, we always have a good chance of winning.”

Having won the first set 21-18, the Americans threatened to run away with the second set, at one point leading by five points, but a late rally from Kantor and Losiak made it interesting until the last point.

In an all-Brazilian bronze medal match, the third-place went the way of Álvaro De Morais Filho and Saymon Barbosa Santos. The pair, who won gold at the Fort Lauderdale Major back in February, beat Andre Loyola Stein and Evandro Goncalves Oliveria Junior in straight sets 21-12, 21-18.

The three teams will soon go into battle once more when they head to Vienna for the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships presented by A1 between July 28 and August 6.
