SSANGYONG HELPS CELEBRATE 50th ANNIVERSARY OF THE 1966 ENGLAND v GERMANY WORLD CUP FINAL

  • Stars from F1 and football drive #ssangyong Tivoli SUVs to mark one of Britain’s finest hours
  • Over 60 #ssangyong cars at Silverstone Classic provide VIP service

Six #ssangyong Tivoli SUVs - three in red to represent England, and three in white for Germany, helped mark the 50th year since the legendary 1966 World Cup Final between England and Germany, in support of Prostate Cancer UK.

The England team cars were piloted by International footballers John Barnes (captain) and Steve Hodge as well as John Stiles (son of World Cup hero Nobby).  The German team - in white - lined-up with ex-Formula 1 stars Damon Hill (captain), Johnny Herbert and Anthony Davidson.

Each driver steered his Tivoli - provided by #ssangyong Motor UK the official courtesy & #event team car partner of the Classic - trying to score goals with an oversized inflatable football, while English Premiership referee Lee Probert, tried to maintain order throughout the 30-minute contest.

The match resulting in a highly equitable 3-3 result, was broadcast on Sky Sports F1 during Saturday’s German Grand Prix qualifying and at the Classic #event at 3.00pm, exactly 50 years from when the World Cup kicked-off at Wembley on Saturday 30 July in 1966.

This was the second year #ssangyong had supplied cars as the official courtesy car partner of the Silverstone Classic, and some 60 vehicles with drivers supported the #event with a three day VIP service.

Models from across the range including the new Tivoli, Korando #crossover, Korando Sports 1 tonne pick-up, Rexton 4x4 and Turismo MPV, were kept busy ferrying VIPs, competitors, media and #event organisers around the Silverstone circuit throughout the weekend.

“This was a great opportunity to showcase our range of cars,” said Paul Williams, CEO of #ssangyong Motor UK.  “We and our dealers were delighted to again support this exciting classic #event at the home of the F1 British Grand Prix.

“SsangYong is Korea’s oldest vehicle manufacturer, and with a history stretching back over 60 years, our heritage perfectly complemented many of the cars competing on the track over the weekend,” he added.

"We were delighted that #ssangyong was able to participate again in this year's festival,” said Nick Wigley, CEO of #event organiser Goose Live Events.  “We greatly appreciated the company’s support in putting on our50thanniversary World Cup Final match - it was a lot of fun while also giving great support to Prostate Cancer UK, the #event charity.”
