Bremont celebrates its continued partnership with the RFU with the release of the limited edition S300 RFU

Ahead of the 2022 Guinness Six Nations Championship kicking off, Bremont unveils the new Limited Edition S300 RFU. As Official Timing Partner to both England #rugby and Twickenham Stadium, the new timepiece, and indeed the partnership, not only celebrates what it means to be ‘made in England’ but equally the shared values of durability, precision, and technical ability
The S300 RFU joins a series of special edition mechanical chronometers from Bremont designed for both fans and players, commemorating the spirit and tenacity of the England team. Through the partnership, Bremont also delivers all of Twickenham stadium’s official time-related match day content, including branded match clocks around the stadium.
Limited to only 150 pieces, the new S300 RFU follows the successful release of the RFU 150, a timepiece designed to mark the 150th anniversary of the RFU in 2021. Building on its popularity, the S300 RFU comes in a slightly smaller iteration at 40mm and its distinct white, blue and red colour palette has been inspired by the England team kit. Based on the design of the ‘Supermarine Type 300’, the new timepiece features a 38-hour power reserve, a ceramic blue unidirectional bezel and a debossed rose detail on the dial, taken from the renowned England team emblem. As with all Supermarine models, the S300 RFU is built from Bremont’s signature trip-tick case construction and is a robust professional dive watch, very much built for purpose. The clean white dial features applied indexes, a date window and a beautifully contrasting sweeping red seconds hand which also nods to the Cross of St. George. Turning the watch over reveals its closed case back stamped with ‘England Rugby – Twickenham’ around the iconic England rose.

THE RUGBY FOOTBALL UNION: THE BEGINNINGS
February 2021 marked 150 years since the RFU was originally formed. On 26th January 1871 21 clubs were represented by 32 people at a meeting chaired by EC Holmes, the Captain of Richmond Club. Within a mere two hours the Rugby Football Union was formed. Algernon Rutter of Richmond was elected as the first President with Edwin Ash as the first Secretary/Treasurer. During the meeting, two sub-committees were formed. The first consisted of three Old Rugbeians who were tasked with writing the Laws of the Game. The other was instructed to choose a team to
play the #rugby footballers of Scotland, who had issued a challenge to the English members. Fairly quickly after the formation of the RFU other countries formed their own unions, the Scots in 1873, the Irish in 1879 and the Welsh in 1881 and annual home-nations fixtures were contested. The RFU remained the ultimate arbiter of the sport until the formation of the International Rugby Board in 1886, which the RFU finally joined in 1890. Following well attended tours by New Zealand and South Africa, the Union committee decided it was time to build their own stadium. It was member William Williams who found the market garden, which was just over 10 acres in size, near Twickenham
as the most suitable site. The land was purchased for £5,572, 12s/6d in 1907. The iconic first match played at Twickenham was between Harlequins and Richmond in October 1909 and the first international was between England and Wales in January 1910. The stadium has been the permanent home of the England national team and the RFU ever since. Since then, the #sport has not looked back and has grown to become one of the most respected sports in the world, with England and Twickenham being at the forefront of its development, both on and off the pitch.
