Volkswagen announces nationwide youth soccer clinics aimed at driving sport and empowering a next generation of athletes

Herndon, VA — Building on its commitment to driving the game of soccer forward, #volkswagen of America, Inc. is proud to announce a multi-city, national youth soccer clinic tour. The clinics go beyond the pitch to teach on and off-field skills while addressing issues surrounding mobility, sustainability, diversity and inclusion. The first VW Youth Soccer Clinic took place at St. David's Performance Center - Parmer Field in Austin, TX on April 1st.
Volkswagen has a strong belief in the power of #sport as a transformative agent. Soccer, in particular, is a common language that unifies cultures, celebrates the power of the human spirit, and can be a valuable contributor to growth in young people's lives. VW Youth Soccer Clinics aim to bring underserved communities closer to the game they love through greater access, education, and high-quality coaching. Designed to build confidence, a major aim of the clinics is to empower a next generation of athletes.
“Our Youth Soccer Clinics demonstrate Volkswagen's commitment to growing the game of soccer and engaging with athletes at early stages in their development,” said Pablo Di Si, President and CEO, #volkswagen Group of America. “Not only do they provide a fun and educational atmosphere for all involved, but our partnership with U.S. Soccer enables participants to meet and learn from some of the best players representing our Women’s and Men’s U.S. National Teams.”
Making a special appearance at the inaugural clinic in Austin was Texas native and former U.S. Men’s National Team player Clint Dempsey. Following a stellar 13-year career representing his country, Dempsey finished as the joint-leading scorer with 57 goals in 142 appearances. Dempsey was born in Nacogdoches, Texas, played for the Texans growing up, and became one of the most feared strikers in U.S. history. In 2022, Dempsey was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
“I’m thrilled to be part of the VW Youth Soccer Clinics and give back to the game I love,” said Dempsey. “The game of soccer taught me many life lessons from a young age and it’s amazing to see #volkswagen getting in at the grassroots level and making a real difference. It was awesome to see so many happy faces in Austin. Hopefully, I was able to inspire them and let them know if they work hard they can accomplish their dream.”
VW Youth Soccer Clinics identify participants by working with local youth organizations that provide a positive impact on children, ages 10-14 years old. In Austin, VW partnered with local non-profit organizations, including 100 Black Men of Austin, Andy Roddick Foundation, Austin Park & Rec Affiliates, Boys & Girls Club of Austin, Breakthrough CTX, Build Soccer and Lonestar Soccer Club Affiliates.
Last November, #volkswagen signed a multi-year partnership extension with U.S. Soccer. Over the course of the partnership, #volkswagen commits to allocating funding to join U.S. Soccer in its commitment to reduce barriers for participation and increase opportunities for underrepresented youth. Working closely with U.S. Soccer’s Membership across the country and portfolio of strategic partners, #volkswagen and U.S. Soccer are committed to bringing soccer programs and resources to underserved communities and aims to make the #sport of soccer more accessible to all youth, regardless of location or background, with its multi-stop VW Youth Soccer Clinics tour.
