Verve Cycling launches revolutionary InfoCrank 3D printed titanium power meter

Verve Cycling in collaboration with Metron Additive Manufacturing has created a revolutionary 3D printed titanium cycling power meter. The #infocrank3d Ti is the first power meter ever to combine true torque-based measurement with a technologically advanced 3D printed titanium crank arm. Now available upon request at www.infocrank.cc

Perth, 29 March 2023

Verve Cycling – creators of the world-beating InfoCrank power meter – and famous cycling technology designer Dimitris Katsanis collaborated with the common goal of creating a truly unique and cutting-edge product for power measurements. #infocrank3d Ti is today a reality, the first samples were introduced in 2021, now Verve makes it available upon request for the market.

Katsanis and his company Metron Additive Engineering are well noted throughout the world of cycling especially for partnering with teams such as the Great Britain Cycling Team and Team Ineos (former Team Sky). Together with #vervecycling, they developed the most state-of-the-art power meter available today: 3D printed in titanium, precision machined and instrumented and polished to a mirror finish, the #infocrank3d Ti is a unique crank that offers incomparable performance data combined with world-beating strength in a lightweight package.

Why #infocrank3d Ti: features and benefits

In the traditional production of a crank, several project limitations come into play. It is very difficult to place the material exactly in the desired position to obtain the ultimate combination of strength and weight, however, no such limitations apply with 3D printing, and products can be fully optimised for the final application.

The #infocrank3d Ti power meter features a new crank arm that is 3D printed in Ti6Al4V titanium: this means that the titan is melted by a high-power electron beam under high vacuum conditions, at an aerospace-qualified facility. The arm is then equipped with Verve system, the most precise power measuring system, creating a product that is unrivalled.

Compared to any other cycling power meter, the #infocrank3d Ti measures torque and cadence from within the crank arms to determine cyclist power output, calculating right and left leg individually, with an industry-leading level of accuracy. This differs from other power meters that measure multiple forces and use mathematical algorithms to estimate power output.

The first cranks were developed specifically for British Cycling's World Leading Track Sprinters, so strength was paramount. The outcome of this new project by Verve is a power meter with an unparalleled strength to weight ratio. In fact, although it is staff and strong, the result is a power meter that is light whilst robust end extremely reliable.

The technology is available for track and road with multiple projects currently in the works such as mountain bike and BMX to meet the needs of world, Olympic and Paralympic medalists worldwide.

Bryan Taylor, #vervecycling CEO, said:

“At Verve, we’ve always prided ourselves on delivering products that stand up to the claims we make, and the outstanding measurement capabilities of the InfoCrank have long been known in the world of elite cycling. Never content to rest on the laurels of peerless data however, we have asked ourselves how we can up our game even further. Enter the 3D printed titanium cycling power meter! Working with Dimitris and his team has been incredibly exciting and we feel we have achieved something truly special together that is going to change the landscape of power measurement forever.”

Dimitris Katsanis, founder and CEO of Metron Advanced Engineering, said:

“We’re very happy to be working with the team at Verve to bring the latest cutting-edge technology of metal 3D printing to the power meter market. The track version of the titanium 3D printed crank is a real tour de force in terms of optimised performance for world class riders.”
