Boa Vista Ultra Trail 2023: A RACE BETWEEN DESERT AND OCEAN

After three years of anticipation, it's finally time to run again, between the desert and the ocean on the island of Boa Vista in the Cape Verde archipelago. In the upcoming edition, scheduled on December 9th, the ultra-trail event will celebrate its twentieth anniversary, and numerous athletes are eagerly looking forward to running on the island after the forced halt due to the pandemic. The three self-sufficient routes are confirmed: 150, 75, and 42 kilometers.

Nature reigns supreme on this small island among the ten comprising the Cape Verde archipelago, situated off the Senegalese coast where the ocean and the desert meet in an infinite embrace. This is how Boa Vista island presents itself, which on December 9th will be the stage for an event that has enlivened these lands for two decades in a running competition designed amidst kilometre-long beaches, sandy deserts, and taxing rocky terrain.

The twentieth edition of the race returns after a three-year hiatus forced by the pandemic, an eagerly awaited event that has raised expectations among runners from around the world, looking forward to experience a journey between the Tropic of Cancer and the Equator.

As per tradition, the organizers of the Friesian Team in collaboration with the Boa Vista Marathon Club and the Municipality of Boa Vista offer three routes starting from the town of Sal: starting from the 150 kilometres of the Boa Vista Ultra Marathon that circumnavigates the island, moving to the 75 kilometres of the Boa Vista Salt Marathon with the finish located at one of the island's last salt flats, concluding with the 42 kilometres of the Boa Vista Eco Marathon that will take athletes through the initial kilometres of the previous races but returning to Sal for the finish line.

At the Boa Vista Ultra Trail, participants not only race against the clock and competitors but also challenge the wild nature of the island and themselves, in total self-sufficiency: the organization only guarantees water at each checkpoint and resting areas for recovery. An experience not easily forgotten.

The start of the Boa Vista Ultra Trail is scheduled for the morning of December 9, 2023; to participate, visit the official event website.
